COLIN SQUIRES

It is with great sadness that we pass on the news that our President Colin Squires died suddenly at home over the weekend of 2nd / 3rd November 2019. Although Colin has been in declining health over the last few years, his passing has come as a great shock to all of us. No further details are available at present, but we pass on our condolences to his family and friends.
Colin was one of the founder members of Saltash Heritage in 1986, and worked tirelessly with the other members of the committee to establish a permanent museum and local history centre in Saltash, which was eventually achieved in 2000. Colin's encyclopaedic knowledge of local history and his good humour were greatly appreciated by all of his colleagues past and present at Saltash Heritage, and visitor enquiries were always professionally dealt with by Colin and others. He was originally the curator, and when it was obvious that the number of items being collected in the museum was too great for one person to handle, the role was split into curator and archivist. In association with David Coles, Colin was instrumental in setting up the 'Modes' computer indexing system which is used by museums across the country, both large and small. Meticulous in detail, he wrote our documentation manual, which still forms the basis of how all of our records are kept today. Colin will be greatly missed.
Funeral details: Colin's funeral will be held at Weston Mill Crematorium on Wednesday 20th November at 2.00pm. No flowers please. Donations for Saltash Heritage, c/o Pengelly Funeral Service, 139 Fore Street, Saltash, PL12 6AB
